Nasal irrigation and neti pot

Your Sinus and Neti Pot Relief

Looking for home remedies for your sinusitis? Here’s an effective way of doing it – using the neti pot. Read on to know how to do it. This is one of the ways that doesn’t require spending hundreds of dollars for medications or antibiotics.

  • You would need a nasal irrigation solution. You can either make your own solution or buy a prepared one. You can also tweak the percentages of the solution to suits your preferences. The nasal irrigation solution that you can use is a combination of ¼ teaspoon of pure non-iodized salt and eight ounces of warm water. Take note that the lining inside your nose is too delicate. Check first the temperature of the water by using your finger. Adjust accordingly if it’s too hot or too cold.  You have to mix well in order to dissolve the salt completely by stirring it. If you put too much or too little of salt, it will sting your nose.
  • Now, here comes the nose part. The neti pot danger comes into the picture if you do not know what to do. It is best done with the assistance of someone who knows how to do it. Or if there’s no one who can assist you, make sure you have read and understand the instructions carefully.
  • Turn your head on the left side and insert the neti pot spout inside your upper nostril. Slowly raise the neti pot and pour the water with salt inside your nose. The technique here is to let go of your inhibitions and you should relax. You have to let gravity work.
  • Do not hold your breath; just breathe out from your mouth.
  • If you relax, the solution will be poured into your nose and then out to the lower nostril.
  • You have to keep your chin tucked to prevent the saline solution from going to the back of your throat.
  • Repeat the same procedure for the other nostril.
  • Once you are done, remove any water from your nose by breathing out of the nose.
